The
Department of Applied Sciences and Humanities consists of
Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Environmental Studies and
English. The College has a strong faculty and ample
infrastructure in all these disciplines. The Department
has well equipped Physics & Chemistry laboratories in
the Tagore Block. The Physics Lab has two sections. One of
the sections (the dark room) is entirely meant for dark
room experiments like optics using ballistic
galvanometers. The Lab has one 5 mw. He-Ne Laser, two
complete sets for studying Hall effect and various bridges
like Rayligh, de santy, Calendar & Griffith etc. The
Lab is equipped with many spectrometers, microscopes,
telescopes, ballistic, galvanometers and other good
quality equipments for different purposes.
The
Chemistry Lab is equipped with modern instruments like UV-
visible spectrophotometer, pH meter, conductivity meter,
flame photometer, flash & five point apparatus,
redwood viscometers, electrical balances etc. along with
sufficient good quality glassware and chemicals. The lab
has a separate instrument and balance room.
The
programmes of Environmental Sciences are concerned with
importing high level knowledge and skills in the areas of
natural and human pollutions and innovate technologies for
sustainable development.
Applied
Sciences, Communication skill and English form the
backbone of the discipline of Engineering in the
twenty-first century as the transformation of India is
taking place from a pre-industrial society to the
knowledge-based society. The burgeoning IT industry has
created opportunities for smart engineering graduates with
excellent communication skills. To this end, the
Department of Applied Sciences and Humanities encourages
education that is distinctively multi-disciplinary and
international. Here the students learn communication
skills and quality of leadership, leading to the growth of
their personality, character, knowledge and wisdom, in
consonance with Indian intellectual traditions.
